It’s time to put you first - Leanne Cooper, You First Coaching
/It’s time to put you first
Rewind 8 years, I was a new mum determined to do the best job possible raising my son whilst having a successful career, being a good partner, friend, daughter, etc…sound familiar?
I bought all the parenting books, joined the baby groups, and scoured the internet for tips. It seemed like whatever the question, some super-mum or parenting guru had the answer. From how to get the perfect latch breastfeeding to how to get back in your jeans in 8 weeks! But the one question I needed an answer to was the one that nobody seemed to know: What do you do when you feel like you’ve lost yourself?
I’d thrown everything into being a mum, but completely lost my identity in the process. The thought of returning to my corporate job filled me with dread but I didn’t know what to do instead. I was unhappy and unfulfilled.
Through the power of coaching, I found the answer and the happiness and fulfilment I was looking for. I decided to help as many other women as possible experience the transformational effects of coaching I had. I left the corporate world, retrained as a Coach, and became the support I was looking for back then.
If you can relate and are interested in becoming more of a priority in your life too, read on I’m about to share:
• Why being a priority is so important
• How to recognise when you need to reprioritise
• The tools needed to make it happen.
Why does being a priority matter?
• You deserve to be happy.
• Your wellbeing matters, not taking care of it will have a detrimental impact.
• Your relationships will improve if you are happier and more present as opposed to unhappy and absent.
• You will be more productive across all areas of your life if you rest when you need to.
•Role-modelling self-empathy to your children will teach them that meeting one’s own needs is not selfish.
When should you act?
Aside from the more obvious signs such as persistent tiredness, low mood, overwhelm and burnout, we need to be aware of other less obvious signs too, including:
1. Not being able to remember the last time you felt excited about something.
2. No longer having an opinion and just going with what others want.
3. Withdrawing socially as seeing friends feels like another thing on your ‘to do’ list.
4. Being in a blur of busyness but none of the things are for you.
5. Forgetting who you are and what you love.
How do we make ourselves a priority?
Many women find this tough, so I created my free weekly Personal Development and Wellbeing Email called The Check-in which l designed to help you to pause and check in on what YOU need right now. Each week I cover a different topic such confidence building, overcoming overwhelm, and goal setting and include exercises, support tools, audio guides, hints, and tips and so much more! Each activity can be done in 15 minutes or less so it’s ideal for busy mums!
