5 Things I have learnt about myself since becoming a mum with Emma Cottam, founder of Isabella and Us.
/I have often spoken about how hard I have found becoming a mum. Nothing prepared me of the upheaval that would happen to my life and me as a person when I become pregnant. Over the past three years I have found motherhood to be a journey I never quite expected to it be, one of challenges, self discovery and development.
Here are 5 Things I have learnt about myself since becoming a mum:
To be a model not a martyr - to be a model of how to take care of yourself, how to set boundaries and the importance of self love and self care. As I learn how to step into who I am, become braver, I hope I am able to share these lessons with Isabella too.
The importance of self care - and how important making that time is to how I parent and my mental health.
To not hide my emotions - I used to think crying was a bad thing, something to be ashamed off, turns out it’s just a human thing and it is okay to share your emotions, and to not bottle them up. This has been a game changer for me and has also allowed those around me to know when my mental health is declining.
Sleep becomes one of the most important things - and sleep deprivation feels like it might kill you. Knowing when to stay up late, when it’s better to co-sleep, when it’s better (and possible) to get in bed at 7pm.
The importance of being my own person too - This has been quite the journey for me, learning who I am, working out what I want form my life and how I get there. Setting boundaries with my business, my job, and those around me.
