5 easy ways to Hygge for Supermoms - Santa Buiko, founder of Nordic Lemon
/5 easy ways to Hygge for Supermoms
When we think of successful mompreneurs, it’s so tempting to focus on the famous supermoms. In the ordinary world most of us don’t have this superpower to balance every day between family and work, multitasking and staying sane. Being a mum is already a full-time job, nonetheless, almost every mom I know has fantasied about starting some sort of small business and stay at home (that usually is the first winning point).
From my personal point of view of being mompreneur for the last 5 years involved in different other projects, having 2 kids in between and juggling between the multiple roles of mine, I can only admit that it takes hell a lot of energy to balance the utopian dream of being supermom and running the business. At the end of the day, kids will not pick themselves up from the kindergarten and evening meals have still to be prepared.
I am a big fan of Hygge approach to living. Danish have incorporated this lifestyle trend of positive thinking into their everyday life. Since I also have been experiencing burnout syndromes once in a while, I have put together a list of Hygge principles in order to create and develop a more positive environment and approach to life by enjoying and focusing on what is the most important. If you want to start the journey of self-care and being Super Mom rather than Supermom, it takes constancy of self-care and daily indulgence.
✨ Light some candles – Create a warm and soft lightning by using candles. The day with kids may be very long but you can start creating the atmosphere long before the kids are asleep. It gives a true comfort and relaxing feeling and if done on a daily basis, kids take it as an evening routine before going to sleep. The warm glow of candles is totally hygge and settles the right mood for calming down. For kids you can try warm night lamps or even flashlights.
✨ Have a hot bath (with no kids in it!) - Forget that lightning-fast shower or that baths are for the kids. You deserved that indulgence for yourself. Run a steamy hot bath with foam or salt bubbles and soak in the quiet comfort. Kids can also have their Hygge bath with bubbles and fun when mums quiet spa time will be finished. My personal trick here would be turning the cartoon – 15 minutes of quietness will only do miracles for both of you.
✨ Glass of wine, hot chocolate or hot tea - whatever feels good now. But prepare the drinks mindfully, experience the self-care and enjoy the moment. Maybe even put some nice soft bath robe or snuggle on the sofa with some blankets while having a drink. Create the comfort that you really need. Make this hot tea served as a ritual, add some cookies or local honey to the overall experience. Believe me, combo of lighted candles, herb tea and snuggly blanket is so relaxing. If you choose wine, no juice glasses, only proper tall fancy glasses are allowed, moms!
✨ Create cozy home - This could be as small and easy as adding a blanket and some cushions to a sofa or armchair, or buying some warm and cosy sleepers or loungewear. Such a lifesaver! I personally feel that having more greenery and fresh flowers around the house comforts me in many ways.
✨ And last but no least- whatever you are doing that comforts you, really take your time and try to enjoy it. Accept the moment and yourself within it, be kind to yourself and spread and exchange positive energy. Take a mental snapshot of how you feel and use that memory later when you feel a little down maybe. The piece of the family lies in the inner piece of mother, put yourself first and you will see the difference.
To conclude, It’s not possible to go faster, in any sustainable way, without first slowing down and engaging deeply with the journey.
We truly believe that small acts like this is what life is truly about. No excuses, time to indulge. If you haven’t done Hygge yet, maybe it’s time you try!
